Over 100 metres of fly-tipped rubbish have been cleared at the request of a town football club this week after locals voiced concerned over the hazardous materials on site.

Last month the Bedfordshire on Sunday reported concerns of the public about the tonnes of rubbish on the Pondwicks Road site in Luton, which is the preferred new space for Luton Town football club.

The rubbish on the site included spoiled mattresses, building materials, furniture and BoS understands there is even asbestos on site.

There were also noticed stating no access is permitted for the site as it contains ‘dangerous materials including asbestos and Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs)’.

This caused uproar in the community about the site which had been left in a state for months. But after BoS reported the story the football club confirmed the rubbish would be cleared within a week – a promise which has been kept.

The clearance was undertaken over a four-day period and safely disposed of as hazardous waste.

A club spokesman said:

“We apologise for the delay in removing this unsightly mess.”
